2008 Summer Camps

About This Summer's Theme
Sometimes the best kind of story is one with a surprise ending.

Jesus was a big surprise to a lot of people. Born in a stable, from a cow-town in the middle of nowhere, he surprised a lot of people with the things he did. But just as surprising were the things he said.

Everyone expected the Messiah to come triumphantly bringing God's wrath to everyone and everything that caused them problems. Jesus knew they were in for a big surprise.

This summer we'll take a look at a few stories Jesus told with surprise endings. He told these stories to prepare his disciples and followers (and us too!) for the ultimate surprise ending: when instead of bringing God's judgment upon the enemies of God's people, Christ bore that judgment himself, dying on the cross for our sins.

Age-appropriate Activities
All camp activities will be tied into the theme "Listen! God is Calling". Whether it is Bible study, worship, sports, arts and crafts or nature projects, all activities are age appropriate.

Staff, Meals and Lodging
Camp Wartburg is proud of our staff. Counselors, support staff and volunteers are well trained, closely supervised, and selected because of their love of children. Counselors are college age, excellent role models and focused on the individual needs of each camper.

Three well-rounded meals and an evening snack are provided daily. Menus are prepared to appeal to the tastes of children, yet provide healthy nutrition.

Air-conditioned cabins will be used for all programs with the exception of Pioneer, Survival and all Trip Camps (which will use framed tents). For all sessions, Camp Wartburg staff counselors sleep in the same facility as the campers.

Financial Assistance
We do not want financial matters to prevent any child from attending Camp Wartburg. Some churches provide further assistance to their members. Please check with your congregation. Camp Wartburg also has limited funds available. Please check the appropriate box and a camp representative will call you. Ask us about multi-child and multi-week scholarships.

Roommate Requests
Campers who want to room together may mutually submit each other's names, provided they are the same age, gender and in the same program. Requests for a roommate must be on a separate piece of paper and included when you mail your camp registration.

Arrival and Departure
When campers check in, parents are asked to update their child's health history. They may visit the Camp Store where clothing and novelties are available for purchase. Camp staff will be on hand to meet parents and campers.
